PERMITS

Permits are Required for the Following:

New Construction – House/Commercial Building

Additions

*Storage Building (Accessory Building)

Porches

Garages

Decks

Patios

Pools

Gazebos

Fences

Ponds (1/4 acre or larger)

Signs

Driveways - Twp. Roads Ditch Enclosure & Driveway Approach (requires an application)


– Zoning Permit Applications may be dropped off at the Township Hall:

    Monday through Friday from 8am - 12noon

    They may also be left in the "Green Box" located next to the office area entrance door.

– Permits require 5-7 business days processing time.  Be sure to apply in advance of your need.

– The Zoning Inspector will contact you after your Zoning Permit Application has been reviewed. 

    He will then let you know the amount required to pay for your permit.  CHECKS ONLY.

– *"Prefab" sheds and buildings are considered Accessory Buildings.

      This includes sheds that can be purchased at "big box" stores.

      Contact the Zoning Inspector prior to installation of any Accessory Building.

During off hours, Permits & Applications may be left in the "Green Box" to the LEFT of the Office Entrance.  If you have any personal items or sensitive information, please use the Black "Secure Drop Box" to the RIGHT of the Office Entrance.

Permits require 5-7 business days processing time.

NOTICE - PROPERTY IMPROVEMENT APPLICATION

Additional Requirement for Zoning Permits

All zoning permits, with the exception of the "Sign" permit, include an additional requirement.

If applicant has an existing household sewage treatment system (septic system), a

"PROPERTY IMPROVEMENT APPLICATION" from Lorain County Public Health is now required.

Site Plan Reviews & Variance Hearings - ADD'L fees

Effective January 15, 2025, any fees incurred from the Fire Inspector or Architect greater

than 2 hours will be the applicant’s responsibility along with any Zoning Permit Fees.

Fees must be paid prior to receiving a Zoning Permit.

ZONING COMMISSION - SITE PLAN REVIEW

NOTICE:  This application was updated on 12/7/2022 and requires 13 copies to be provided to the Township.

Completed application forms, required documentation, and payment for the "Site Plan Review"

must be submitted to the Amherst Township Zoning Inspector in person by the applicant.

Completed application forms, required documentation, and payment for "Zoning Amendments"

must be submitted to the Amherst Township Zoning Inspector in person by the applicant.
