Yard Waste

Yard wastes such as branches, trimmings, grass cuttings and leaves may be brought to the Amherst Township property located on the EAST side of Oberlin Road (directly across from the Township Garage) Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM; Saturday from 8 AM until 11AM; the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Extended Fall hours from 8 AM until sunset are available beginning October 15th through December 1st. This is available to Township Residents Only. (No Commercial).

Dumpster days are provided in the Spring and Fall (see Township Newsletter for specific dates). No plastic bags. Please place bags in 55 gallon drum.

General Service Guidelines

  • Place all material inside the Rumpke trash and recycling carts.
  • Place carts curbside the evening before your service day.
  • Face the cart opening toward the street, within 3 ft. of the curb and 3 ft. away from other objects.

Bulky Items

  • Rumpke will collect bulky items on your regular service day. You may place bulky items out for collection on one day during each calendar month at no charge. There will be a charge for collection of bulky items on additional days in the same month. Any item placed outside the trash cart will be considered a bulky item. As a courtesy, please contact Rumpke in advance when you have bulky items for pickup.
  • Examples of Bulky Items: appliances, carpet, furniture, toys.
  • Appliances with Freon: Items must have Freon removed by a licensed technician, and the removal certificate must be attached to the appliance. Examples: refrigerators, freezers, A/C units.

Prohibited Items

Please DO NOT place the items listed below inside Rumpke trash or recycling carts. For safe disposal options, please contact your solid waste district.

Rumpke Cannot Collect:

  • Tires
  • Liquids
  • Batteries
  • Hazardous waste
  • Flammable materials
  • Household chemicals

Safe Disposal of Sharps & Needles: Place in a hard plastic laundry detergent bottle, reattach the lid and secure it with duct tape. Use a thick permanent marker to clearly write “SHARPS” on the bottle. Place the sealed bottle inside your trash cart.

Plastic bags, cassette tapes, bed sheets, metal hangers, metal chains hoses, batteries, buckets, car parts, chemicals, clothes, cord, cups, dishware, electronics, hazardous items, light bulbs, needles, pots, pans, ropes, toys, tubs, window glass, wire.
